Police officers in Kyole Sub-County were on Tuesday shocked when their boss directed them not to contribute money for the burial of one of their own.
Mr Michael Mutonyi a senior officer in Nairobi, sent a memo where he said the late officer Joel Chesire who was murdered by suspected robbers did not qualify for contributions as he was not a contributor.
“Welfare contributions please be informed that the late Joel Chesire of Stapol Kayole, Subcounty who was found murdered together with another officer does not qualify for contributions because he was not a contributor,” read the directive numbered C/GEN/6/15/VOL/137/29.
Mr Chesire was shot dead together with his colleague in an early morning attack in Kayole and no one has been arrested in connection to the death three weeks later.
Police officers did not take the directive lightly as some differed with Mr Munyiri accusing him of being personal.
An officer who spoke to Kenya Mails in confidence for the fear of being victimised said they had started a different platform and would still make their contributions.
“We were shocked to see that memo and it will not stop us from assisting his family,” said the officer.
Another officer said that, there was no need of judging the late since one did not know what he was going through.
