Police in Mswambeni Subcounty, Kwale County are in pursuit of a gang that killed a middle-aged man after he exhibited symptoms of the deadly coronavirus.

Mr George Kotini was on his way home after spending his evening at a drinking joint when he was stopped by the gang that accused him of ailing from the disease.

A police report filed at Diani police station by Mr Juma Gatimu, a resident of Kibundani- an argument ensued between the gang and the man before they beat him up.

“An argument ensued as the youth took advantage of his drunkenness and started accusing him of suffering from coronavirus. As a result, they seriously assaulted him, hence sustaining injuries,” the report read in part.

The gang used stones and boulders to hit the man and by the time the police arrived at the scene it had already fled.

He was rushed to Msambweni Referral Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
