Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday night arrested a man for making silly mistakes.

Mr Elijah Muthui Kitonyo 23, was nabbed by detectives in Mwingi, Makueni County for publishing misleading and alarming information on social media over Corona Virus.

In a statement, DCI said that the man will be charged for publishing false information that is calculated or results in panic contrary to section 23 of the computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act of 2018.

The DCI further asked members of the public to be responsible and desist from authoring, publishing or sharing unconfirmed information that may cause panic and anxiety.

In his post, Mr Muthui had suggested that the Government had lied to the people that it had barred all International flights into the country.

Mr Muthui went ahead to claim that a lady identified as Millicent Musau was the second patient and that she had arrived in the country from Italy.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday evening confirmed two more cases saying that all the patients had been put on quarantine.

So far a total of 22 patients are under quarantine at the Mbagathi Hospital.
