Granit Xhaka has been relieved of his role as the captain of Arsenal Football Club.
This decision comes as an aftermath of the incidents that followed the withdrawal of Xhaka from Arsenal’s match against Crystal Palace.
The now-former captain was booed off the pitch by his club’s fans.
In a rare feat of furry, Xhaka reacted to the booing by cupping his ears while facing the fans.
He went ahead to direct unprintable expletives to the Arsenal die-hards before taking off his jersey as he stormed down the tunnel past his manager, Unai Emery.
Emery has revealed that Aubameyang takes over as the first captain for the rest of the season.
Unlike Aubameyang, Xhaka was voted in as the club captain during the preseason by his teammates.
Xhaka is yet to feature for Arsenal and was not included in the squad traveling to Vitoria.
Emery revealed at his Press Conference earlier today that he met Xhaka and informed him that he will no longer be the club captain.
“He accepted my decision. We need to carry on and focus on tomorrow’s match.
“I needed to take a decision and now it’s closed.”
This decision leaves the coach in a precarious position and risks a dressing room revolution given that Xhaka is among his teammates.
