48 World Bank projects Board managers were on Tuesday sacked from their positions.
Kenya Mails has established that the tens were sacked over what was described as high level of illiteracy.
The 48 who have been in charge of projects within Kiambu county were fired by the Governor James Nyoro.
The board managers had been hired by embattled former Governor Ferdinard Waititu without what Governor Nyoro said was following proper guidelines in the process.
Daily Nation on Tuesday reported that an alarm had been raised by World bank on the literacy level of the managers.
“We noticed that most of them had no post-primary education and dropped out of school in Standard Seven yet they were part of committee that makes decision on multi-billion projects funded by the World Bank.
“There were concerns from the World Bank that most of the municipal board members could not understand and interpret policy issues to the people they claim to represent,” the publication quoted a source.
The Governor confirmed that indeed the fired individuals did not meet the set qualifications and it would affect the fruitful relationships between Kiambu county and World Bank.
Governor Nyoro has in the past blamed Mr Waititu for embezzling funds amounting to Sh3.8 billion he inherited from the previous county government that was headed by Mr William Kabogo.
