Covid-19; AfriSAFE Picks Six Judges to Settle on Top African Performers

A Kenyan has been picked to be one of the six judges who will be making key decisions during the Africa Safety Award for Excellence (AfriSAFE) scheduled for October 11, 2020. 

In a press statement released on Monday and signed by AfriSafe Chief Coordinator Mr Femi Da- Silva- Mr Jerry Mutegi was named as one of the key judges. 

Mr Mutegi is a Master’s Degree holder in Occupational Safety and Health Management. He is also a Safety Manager at a leading manufacturing company in Eastern Africa. 

The press statement revealed that he has a safety career spanning almost 2 decades and has in the past established Safety Management systems in several manufacturing operations across eastern Africa. 

This involves the manufacturing of glass, beer and spirits manufacture and malting. 

Others who have been picked alongside Mr Mutegi and who will play key roles in making of decisions in the awards include; John Flynn, Jessy Gomes, Nofisat Abiola Arogundade, Raji Abdallah and Dave Foy. 

The judges’ committee compromises of six professionals from UK, Ireland, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Capr Verde Isands. 

The statement revealed that the six judges will be tasked with assessing over 1200 entries across 12 categories from 4 African regions for the 2020 award programme. 
 

“We are inspired by the passion and zeal to reward excellence and creativity especially in times like this. This is evident from the overwhelming number of nominations we have received. Accordingly, we have also appointed judges who are professionals across various fields of health and safety with years of quality experience to preside over the judging criteria to ensure fairness and justice in choosing the 2020 nominees and winners.” 

He said that the award event will bring together captain industries, industrial giants and safety professionals from across Africa on one platform to celebrate its histories. 
 

He added that the award event which will be held virtually on October 11 will bring together captain of industries, industrial giants and safety professionals from across African on one platform to celebrate its heroes.
