Twelve heavily armed gangsters on Sunday night engaged police attached to Madaraka police station in a deadly shootout.
Kenya Mails has established that eight of the gangsters were shot dead in the shoot-out.
In a police statement seen by this reporter reported at Makadara Police Station under OB number 37/23/08/2020 eight of the 12 armed robbers were shot and seriously wounded in the robbery. Four of them managed to flee.
The officers received a call from a distressed staff who said that a Godown along Lungalunga opposite Shell Petrol Station in Industrial area was being robbed.
The two Godowns were identified as Sihra Coffee Machinery Service and Gensham Wood Enterprises where they found a motor vehicle of registration number KAS 340M a Mitsubishi Canter.
“Four escaped and were believed to be armed. The following recoveries were made from the scene two homemade pistols and a revolver whose serial number was invisible. The homemade pistols were loaded each with two ammos of 9mm and two gas cylinders of 50kg,” the report read in part.
The scene of crime was visited by top officers attached to Madaraka Police Station and documented.
The bodies of the eight were taken to the Nairobi City Mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem.
